Becoming a Physician and Education

Dr. Caitlin Tourje began her journey to becoming a physician at a young age. As a child, she would spend her time learning and watching her father operate. She knew very early on that she wanted to go to medical school to become a physician and help those in need. Dr. Tourje graduated summa cum laude from Concordia University Irvine and then enjoyed a year off traveling the world and spending time with family before beginning medical school.

Dr. Tourje attended medical school in Boston, Massachusetts at Tufts University School of Medicine. After graduation, Dr. Tourje completed her residency at the University of Virginia in the Department of Anesthesiology. She completed her fellowship in interventional pain medicine at Wake Forest University: School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Dr. Tourje greatly enjoyed her time at Wake Forest and was fortunate to be trained by many of the great leaders in the pain community.

Spanish Hills Interventional Pain Specialists

After completing her interventional pain fellowship, Dr. Tourje moved back home to California and began seeing patients at Spanish Hills Interventional Pain Specialists. She is an expert in her field and genuinely enjoys finding innovative, effective solutions for her patients.

Dr. Tourje’s specialties include neuromodulation, spine procedures, abdominal and pelvic pain, and ultrasound guided procedures. Dr. Tourje’s favorite part about being a pain physician is getting to know her patients and being able to offer effective options for pain management that allow for improved function and quality of life. For many patients, they have been met with difficulty in terms of controlling their pain. Dr. Tourje strives to return hope to peoples’ eyes and allow them to get back to living their lives, free from pain. Dr. Tourje continues to learn perseverance from her patients and works hard alongside them to get them the relief they need.

Outside of Medicine

Dr. Tourje was born and raised in California. While she  has spent many years in  various parts of the country to attend school and complete her training, California has always been home. She enjoys gardening, SCUBA diving, and spending time with her family. If she wasn’t a physician, she would love to be a SCUBA dive master at a tropical resort!

What sets Dr. Tourje apart from the other doctors at Spanish Hills Interventional Pain Specialists is that she is the only female doctor and the youngest! She values her role at Spanish Hills and the team-oriented atmosphere, where all of the physicians collaborate and work together. Dr. Tourje looks forward to continued work with her patients, where she hopes to foster an open mind and help patients through a journey that allows for pain relief and improvement.
